When I thought about myself in Santorini, I thought of laying on the beach all day (true so far) and coming back to our cute villa and sitting outside getting some writing done at night.
Epic fail, so far.
I've told you all before how I love to write and how it's my goal to write a novel.
I am constantly writing: blogging, twittering, PR writing....just not novel writing.
See, the problem is: I can't make myself sit down and actually write.
Actually, the problem right now is, I can't think of a story idea. Sure, there are plenty of ideas floating around in my head, but I can't seem to make them coherent enough in my mind to sit down and write.
Anyone have any story ideas for me? I am so frustrated because this is the perfect week for me to start some serious writing that I can continue when I get home.
What do you do when you need some writing inspiration? Where do you get your ideas from?

My best inspiration for writing comes from reading. Read different types of authors from different eras...fiction, nonfiction, whatever. I firmly believe that reading quality literature can really help spark and enhance your own ideas and voice. At least that is how I felt when I was in creative writing classes in college. Now all my writing is marketing focused!
p.s. I'm a new reader. I love your blog!
I'm feeling the same way lately, the only writing I ever do is internship-related, blog-related or freelance-related. Which is all well and good but I would like to get some serious journalling in and I'd LOVE to try my hand at fiction writing!
Usually though when I want to write and I have no inspiration I just sit down and FORCE myself to start writing! Usually more comes of it then I thought!
Glad to hear you're having such a fabulous time abroad. I've been reading all your updates on both blogs, tweets, and checking out your photo's on facebook :-) Looks SOO amazing! Enjoy your last little bit of time there!
You're a writer too?!
And I haven't had inspiration in ages either. I write for protagonize.com which is collaborative, so I add onto other people's stories sometimes. But when I want to do something solo, it does take a long time for me to think of something. Usually I go out for a walk, or I take the bus and let it take me to every stop and only get off at the end. A lot of the time, just looking out the window and observing people helps a lot. Oh, and music. Music can be very inspirational (:
Good luck with the novel! :DD
Enjoy your vacation for now-then when you get home focus on writing. I think something will come to you. You deserve a break!
PS-I like your anchor "tattoo" idea. Let me know how it looks!
I know exactly how you feel because I have been feeling the exact same way. I have a few ideas floating around in my head but I just can't sit still long enough.
Hope things are going well for you (looks like you're having fun!) enjoy the rest of your time abroad!
You can start with the smallest of ideas and you'll find that more come to you as you sit down and write. There's no substitute for just sitting down and trying to get something on paper. That kind of focus will get you thinking about characters and story, and once you have that all in your head, ideas will come to you at all times because you'll be thinking about your project.
I have the same goal of writing a novel but i cant sit down and start getting to it. I attempted so a few years ago, but it bored me to pieces and I threw the whole thing away. A good 50 page manuscript...
As far as inspiration. Stupidity, mostly.
I can't say that I've gotten any "novel" ideas from this yet (I too am stumped)... But the best thing for me to do to just clear my mind and then POOF an idea comes, is to go for a long walk in a beautiful garden, beach, or park. I can just walk for hours listening to birds, the sea and then the creative juices start to flow.
Wish I could help! My dad keeps telling me I need to add "Writing a Book" to my life to do list.
If I KNEW what to write about maybe that would happen.
